Vehicle Results from SAM2

What is a SAM2?

A SAM2 (Speed Awareness Message) sign is a vehicle-activated device that detects the speed of approaching vehicles and displays it to the driver. If a vehicle exceeds the speed limit, the sign will display a “SLOW DOWN” warning message.  When a vehicle exceeds the speed limit by more than 10 mph, the speed display is replaced by the “SLOW DOWN” message only. This helps discourage drivers from attempting to record higher speeds.

Who owns the SAM2 signs?

The Parish Council owns two SAM2 signs. These were purchased with the support of funding from the Parish Partnership Scheme and the Local County Councillor Members Fund.

Where can SAM2 signs be placed?

SAM2 signs are installed within 30 mph speed limit areas, specifically on stretches of road where there are safety concerns. Locations are carefully selected to ensure the signs do not cause obstruction or become an inappropriate distraction to road users. All current sites have been agreed in consultation with the Parish Council and a Highways Engineer from Norfolk County Council’s Highways Department.  The SAM2 is only allowed to be on site for four weeks and cannot return to that location until after eight weeks.
